Hire
As a freelance design engineer, I am (Def-Proc Engineering is) available for hire in 3 main areas:
Email contact [at] def-proc.co.uk with details of your project for a quote.
Engineering Development ↩
£300 per billable day1.
Design engineering support — going from idea to thing — is about providing skilled engineering development for your project at any stage in it’s life cycle. Design engineering can cover anything from the initial research and development of an idea, through prototyping, initial low volume production and onto preparations for higher volume industrial manufacturing.
I have specific experience with:
- Stuctural engineering and stress & strain analysis,
- Using rapid prototyping techniques,
- Prototyping and low volume manufacturing,
- Arduino microcontroller (including internet connected devices)
As a “friendly design engineer”, I can often bridge the gap between a creative and an industrial partner so both parties get what they want by understanding the creative and technical elements.
I typically do consultancy work for artists, makers, startups and small businesses to help them design and manufacture prototypes and small run productions. As I typically work with smaller clients, I undertand the need to keep a tight rein on finances; I normally work with a fixed cost per project milestone so the client gets an identifiable agreed result at each stage without runaway costs.
Details of recent in-house projects can be found in Projects and more detail can be found on the Blog.
Teaching ↩
£250 per session or £300 per day (plus materials)
I can provide teaching sessions for any of the areas that I nomally work in, for example:
- Laser Cutting
- 3D Printing
- Arduino Microcontroller (including the £3 equivalent shrimping.it kit) Soldering
and any of the in-house projects that I’ve worked on such as:
I’ve taught classes on these topics to children and adults and ran group activities for the whole family. As a former university tutor I have plenty experience with helping people understand technical content.
If you’re just looking for a single place on a course, I have some course listings on Eventbrite .
Technican Support ↩
£100 per day, minimum ½ day
Sometimes you don’t want someone to do it for you but you do want some concentrated assistance to help you improve yourself and your project. I’m currently the Technician-in-Residence for DoES Liverpool , a co-working and makerspace in Liverpool where I do the 1 hour introductions to get users started on their own with the workshop equipment ; but that time isn’t always enough. If you’d like more support, I can technician exclusively for you on any and all of the equipment that they have available.
You will still have to cover the costs of your workshop use, but at DoES Liverpool it’s £10 per day, and the first day is free if you bring cake .
-
A billable day describes a whole working day of engineering development time on your project. Eating, napping and thinking are all non-billable! ↩
